Artificial Intelligence – powerful tools in the design industry

Until recently, when we thought about automating and improving our work, we would typically imagine huge machines in factories that replaced manual workers. It seemed that machines could relieve us physically, but hardly anyone thought that they could also gradually relieve us mentally. However, with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), we now have machines that can think, create, and even seem to be creative. AI can help us correct mistakes and generate new and better ideas. On the one hand, it’s understandable that this development might make us feel apprehensive. On the other hand, it’s also clear that if we want to remain competitive in today’s market, we must learn to use AI and its various tools. Furthermore, social media is now filled with images generated by AI-based applications. While we’ve previously focused on ChatGPT and AI conversations, in this post, we will discuss the use of AI in design and creative industries.

The increasing level of AI advancement in design market

Artificial intelligence has been used in applications for some time, but perhaps we didn’t fully notice its capabilities, and it was not as spectacular as it is now. AI has revolutionized the way that apps function by providing them with advanced natural language processing, image recognition, predictive analytics, and other capabilities. This has made it possible for apps to understand user inputs, preferences, and behavior patterns. Apps can use this information to provide personalized recommendations, automate tasks, and enhance the overall user experience.

How can it change the design market?

The design process can be automated by repetitive tasks, like resizing images, formatting text or selecting colors. It can allow designers to focus on more creative and strategic work. Another thing is that AI may enable designers to create more personalized and customized designs by analyzing user data and preferences. Thanks to that, it’s easier to create the tailored designs to individual users. Artificial intelligence may simplify the collaboration between the designers, for example by real-time feedback, suggestions, and revisions. It can help designers to work together more efficiently and effectively. This is connected to the last, but not the least, advantage. AI can help to reduce the cost and time associated with design projects, what can be a huge opportunity for the individuals, start-ups or business to access high-quality design services at lower prices.

AI is providing creative industries with new tools and capabilities, which definitely influence the market. The designing process is getting easier and the designers have more abilities than before. Let’s take a look at the applications which already use the artificial intelligence, and let’s check the newest propositions on the market.

Creative industry revolutionized by artificial intelligence

Designers, photographers, and individuals who want to unleash their creativity now have more possibilities than ever before. Artificial intelligence is being used in many well-known applications and is influencing the appearance of more advanced apps, which are even more spectacular than existing ones. AI is used in applications such as Canva, Figma or Wix.

Canva uses artificial intelligence to suggest templates and layouts, as well as to automatically remove backgrounds from images. Figma suggests design and composition elements that are based on previous designs, and automatically repeats tasks. Wix, is a website builder, which uses AI to design and build websites for the users, without having to use the code. Built websites are based on the users’ preferences and content. It also has an ability to automate website management tasks.

In addition to using artificial intelligence in applications that have been on the market for years, we would like to take a look at new applications that have recently appeared on the market or will be released in the near future, and have caused quite a stir on the Internet with their presence.

AI design tools you must know to unleash your creativity

We have listed 5 interesting tools that can definitely facilitate work in the creative industry:

  • DALL-E
  • Midjourney
  • Stable Diffusion Online
  • Adobe Firefly
  • Designer.microsoft.com
DALL-E

DALL-E is a system developed by OpenAI, which can generate high-quality images from textual descriptions. The name “DALL-E” is a combination of the artist Salvador Dalí and the popular cartoon character WALL-E. The system was introduced in January 2021. It has received significant attention, because of its ability to create novel and realistic images from the text prompts. For example, a user could input the phrase “an armchair in the shape of an avocado” and DALL-E would produce an image of a realistic armchair with an avocado-shaped design.

Midjourney

Midjourney is an innovative AI tool that is available on the Discord platform. It may create images from text descriptions, as does DALL-E. Midjourney generates images in a fun, interesting style. The tool has been in beta since July 12, 2022, and is gaining more and more users. If you want to create images using Midjourney, you must have a Discord account, join the Midjourney server and enter a description of the image in the appropriate channel.

Stable Diffusion

Stable Diffusion is a model which can generate the image based on the text, like DALL-E or Midjourney. It is available online for free on their website. However, it may give worse results than its two competitors – Midjourney and DALL-E, it’s still worth to try how it works and how it will develop in the future.

Adobe Firefly

Adobe Firefly was launched at the Adobe Summit 2023, and it offers many possibilities in terms of graphics, fonts, video, 3D, and more. It allows users to create images based on the context of the provided inputs. It can also enrich images with various elements by entering simple text content. Not only that, but it can also transform a hand-drawn sketch of a logo or a font into different vector variations. Adobe describes its video editor as a tool that simplifies work and can even change the weather in a movie. In the future, Adobe plans to enhance the tool to work with 3D and do things such as turning simple 3D compositions into photorealistic images. You can sign up on the waiting list or learn more about Adobe Firefly on their website.

Microsoft Designer

Microsoft Designer offers a set of design tools to create various types of digital content. It includes templates, icons, fonts, and more. These tools use machine learning algorithms to suggest design layouts, font combinations, and color schemes based on the user’s content and preferences. Thanks to AI, it suggests e.g. color schemes, images or can even remove the background from images.

It is worth noting that the tool is delivered by Microsoft, but it’s based on the DALL-E image generator. It shows how big corporations can join forces to create new applications. The app is available for free to anyone with a Microsoft account, and it can be accessed from any web browser.
